RUSSELL COUNTY OPP CONTINUES TO BATTLE EXCESSIVE SPEEDING

(RUSSELL, ON) - Members of the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a total of 40 drivers for stunt driving since May 1, 2026.
Officers continue to conduct targeted enforcement in response to ongoing concerns regarding excessive speeding and dangerous driving behaviours across the detachment area. Stunt driving remains a significant road safety issue, placing all road users at risk.
Some of the notable speeds were 191km/h and 179km/h in a 110km/h zone, 120km/h and 110km/h in a 60km/h zone and 91km/h in a 40km/h school zone during school hours.
Drivers charged with stunt driving face immediate and serious consequences under the Highway Traffic Act, including a 30 day roadside driver’s licence suspension, a 14-day vehicle impoundment, and a minimum fine of $2,000 upon conviction, which may increase significantly depending on the circumstances. Additional penalties may include further fines, demerit points, and possible licence suspension upon conviction.
