DUFFERIN OPP CONTINUE CRACKDOWN ON IMPAIRED DRIVING

(DUFFERIN COUNTY) - Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged six individuals with impaired driving-related offences as a result of traffic complaints, motor vehicle collisions, and proactive enforcement efforts conducted throughout Dufferin County.
On June 10, 2026, at approximately 6:50 pm, officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the area of Scott Street in the Town of Grand Valley in response to a fail-to-remain collision that had occurred earlier.
Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle of interest displaying damage consistent with the collision. Officers subsequently spoke with the driver of the vehicle, and during the interaction, an impaired driving investigation was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, Kevin VANDEERDE, a 24-year-old male from Grand Valley, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Failure to stop after accident
- Dangerous operation
- Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
- Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
On June 17, 2026, at approximately 6:44 pm, officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a residence in response to a dispute that had occurred earlier that day.
Officers attended the residence and spoke with the complainant, who advised that the vehicle involved was currently at a licensed dining establishment in the area of Colonel Phillips Drive in the Town of Shelburne.
Officers subsequently attended the area and, just before 8:00 pm, located a vehicle of interest and conducted a traffic stop. Officers spoke with the driver, and during the interaction, an impaired driving investigation was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, Rick PEREIRA, a 52-year-old male from Shelburne, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
- Obstruct plate
On June 17, 2026, at approximately 7:30 pm, officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 11 in the Township of Amaranth when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.
Officers subsequently conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver. During the interaction, officers observed signs of impairment, and an impaired driving investigation was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, Michael SHU, a 36-year-old male from Milton, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
On June 21, 2026, at approximately 4:25 pm, officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched in relation to a motor vehicle collision that had occurred earlier in the day on Marshall Crescent in the Town of Orangeville. The involved parties had exchanged information at the scene prior to police being contacted.
Officers attended and spoke with the complainant before following up at a residence on Highway 9 in the Town of Mono, where the other involved party was believed to have gone following the collision. While speaking with the involved individual, officers observed signs of impairment, and an impaired driving investigation was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, Piotr FERET, a 43-year-old male from Pelham, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On June 21, 2026, at approximately 11:03 pm, officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a campground on County Road 109 in the Township of East Garafraxa following reports of an individual who was believed to be intoxicated and driving erratically within the resort.
Police were advised that the individual had left the campground in a vehicle and returned prior to officers arriving on scene. Officers attended and attempted to speak with the individual, who became uncooperative and belligerent during the interaction.
While speaking with the individual, officers observed signs of impairment, and an impaired driving investigation was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, Jessica FISH, a 31-year-old female from Cambridge, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
- Possess unmarked cigarettes
- Resist Peace Officer
- Assault a Peace Officer (two counts)
- Dangerous operation
On June 22, 2026, at approximately 11:36 pm, officers from the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision in the area of Amaranth-East Luther Townline and 20th Sideroad in the Township of Amaranth.
Officers attended the scene and spoke with the driver of the vehicle. During the interaction, officers observed signs of impairment, and an impaired driving investigation was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, Maggie FRANZ, a 23-year-old female from Caledon, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville at a later date to answer to the charges.
In addition, the individuals’ driver’s licences were suspended, and the vehicles were impounded.
