OPP Honours Constable Charles W. St. Charles Who Died in the Line of Duty
(MADOC, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), alongside family members, community leaders and partners, gathered today for a bridge dedication ceremony in honour of Constable Charles W. St. Charles, who lost his life while serving in the line of duty nearly 100 years ago.
Constable St. Charles, aged 75, was tragically shot while executing a tax distress warrant and died on December 22, 1926. He served as a police officer in Madoc Township for 25 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
Memorial signs at the bridge located at Highway 62 and Kellers Bridge Road in Madoc Township will serve as a permanent tribute to honour his life, service and sacrifice.

Bridge dedications are an important act of remembrance that helps honour fallen police officers in Ontario.
Since 2002, the Government of the Province of Ontario, through the Highway Memorials for Fallen Officers Act and the Ministry of Transportation, has permitted the naming of bridges and other structures on the King’s Highway in memory of police officers who died in the line of duty.
