OPP LAYS MULTIPLE CHARGES INCLUDING DANGEROUS OPERATION

(MACDONALD-MEREDITH-ABERDEEN ADDITIONAL, ON)- A driver of a stolen vehicle is facing multiple charges after failing to stop for police and driving dangerously through multiple jurisdictions.
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, at approximately 12:00 pm, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) responded to reports of a stolen grey vehicle originating from Barrie. The vehicle failed to stop for police in Sault Ste. Marie and continued eastbound on Highway 17.
Throughout the incident, police services worked collaboratively, sharing information and coordinating resources as the suspect vehicle travelled through multiple jurisdictions. Officers received numerous reports of the vehicle being driven at high rates of speed and in a dangerous manner, placing members of the public at risk.
Members of the OPP, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), along with the Anishinabek Police Service, continued efforts to locate the vehicle. The East Algoma OPP Detachment subsequently located the suspect vehicle abandoned on Francis Street in the Town of Blind River.
The driver then stole a bicycle and fled the area. At approximately 4:00 pm, officers located and arrested the suspect on King Edward Street in Blind River.
As a result of the investigation, Joshua HUGHES ROBERGE, 26 years old, of Quebec, Quebec, was charged with:
- Flight from peace officer
- Possession property obtained by crime over $5000
- Dangerous operation
- Obstruct peace officer
- Fail to comply with Probation Order
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on June 8, 2026.
