COLLINGWOOD OPP URGES SAFE DRIVING AHEAD OF CANADA DAY WEEKEND

NUMBERS ARE IN

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) - The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) concluded its Canada Day week traffic enforcement campaign on July 5, 2026. Throughout the campaign, officers conducted proactive traffic enforcement initiatives across the community, with a focus on lifesaving measures such as seat belt compliance, as well as distracted driving, aggressive driving, and speeding.

During the campaign, officers issued numerous provincial offence notices, 121 of those notices were issued for the campaign’s key enforcement focus areas, including:

  • Driver failing to properly wear a seat belt: 9
  • Passenger failing to properly wear a seat belt: 49
  • Drive while passenger under 16 fails to properly wear a seat belt: 13
  • Driving while using a hand-held communication device: 4
  • Speeding: 46
