COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVER ISSUED SUSPENSION

(COCHRANE, ON) - A commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver has been issued a licence suspension after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers identified safety concerns during a traffic stop in Cochrane.
On May 6, 2026, the James Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop after observing equipment deficiencies and driving-related concerns involving a CMV.
Officers determined the driver had consumed alcohol. Police issued the breath demand into an Approved Screening Device (ASD) which confirmed the driver’s blood alcohol concentration to be above zero.
Under Ontario law, commercial motor vehicle drivers are subject to a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol.
As a result, the 45-year-old driver from Caledon was issued a three-day driver’s licence suspension. Police also issued a total of five Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) relating to various violations.
The driver was charged with:
- Drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or drawn vehicle
- Fail to enter defect in daily inspection report
- Improper number plate light
A company based in Brampton was charged with:
- Fail to ensure performance standards are met
- Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly
