TWO INDIVIDUALS CHARGED FOLLOWING DRUG TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATION IN COBALT

(COBALT, ON) - Two individuals are facing multiple drug trafficking charges after members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a search warrant in Cobalt.
On June 16, 2026, members of the Northeast Region CSCU, with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit, executed a search warrant under the Controlled drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) at a residence on Nickle Street in Cobalt.
As a result of the investigation, officers arrested two individuals and seized suspected illicit drugs, cash, cellular phones, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Police seized approximately:
- 251 grams of suspected fentanyl
- 4 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- 402 methamphetamine tablets
- 4 oxycodone tablets
- $330 in Canadian currency
- Two cellular phones
- Drug trafficking paraphernalia, including a scale and debt list
As a result of the investigation, Barry HEWITT, 68 years of age, and Alex DUGAS, 39 years of age, both of Cobalt, were each charged with:
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled drugs and Substances Act
- Possession of oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled drugs and Substances Act
- Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled drugs and Substances Act
- Possession of crystal methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled drugs and Substances Act
Additionally, Alex DUGAS was charged with breaching his conditional sentence order.
Both accused were held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury.
