Detectives investigating suspicious fires at Energy Court – One individual located deceased in tent

Around 3:40 am this morning, June 11, 2026, Greater Sudbury Police, Fire and Paramedic Services were dispatched to Energy Court in relation to two tents on fire.
Upon extinguishing the fires, emergency responders located a deceased individual inside one of the tents. No other individuals have reported injuries.
The deceased individual’s identity is currently unknown. A postmortem will be conducted through the Coroner’s Office to assist in determining the individual’s identity and the cause of death.
The fires are being treated as suspicious as the circumstances leading to the incident have not yet been confirmed.
Officers remain on scene and there will be a police presence at Energy Court throughout the day.
Detectives in the Major Crime Section are working in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office to determine the cause of the fire.
