(BROCKTON, ON) - On January 15, 2026, at approximately 2:32 pm, a member of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol in Walkerton when they stopped to check a vehicle along May Street.

The officer had received an automated licence plate recognition system (ALPR) alert, indicating an issue with the observed licence plate. The driver was taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded for 90 days.

Curtis WHITTEN, 35-years-old, of West Grey, was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited, CC 320.18(1)(a)
  • Fail to comply with release order, CC 145(5)(a)
  • Possession of a schedule II substance, CDSA 4(1)
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, HTA 12(1)(d)
  • Driving while under suspension, HTA 53(1) - two counts
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, CAIA 2(1)(a)
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes, TTA 29(2)
  • Care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available, CCA 12(1)

The accused was held for a bail hearing on January 16, 2026, and subsequently released from custody. They are set to reappear at the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
