-UPDATE #2- OPP INVESTIGATING FOUND HUMAN REMAINS IN THORNTON
DNA Confirms Gender of Deceased
(THORNTON, ON) - Police continue their investigation into a death in Thornton following DNA confirmation of the deceased’s gender.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, shortly before 11:30 am, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a residence near 10th Line and 10th Sideroad in Thornton after human remains were located.
Due to the condition of the recovered human remains, specialized forensic testing, including DNA analysis, was undertaken to assist with identification. The results have confirmed that the remains belong to an adult male, revising earlier preliminary findings that suggested the individual was female. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.
The OPP is requesting the public’s assistance and is asking anyone with information that may assist this investigation, including observations of suspicious circumstances or activity in the area, to contact police. Local residents will continue to see an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
Further information will be released as it becomes available.
