CITIZEN REPORT LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES IN WELLINGTON

(Prince Edward County, ON) - A report from a concerned citizen has led to impaired driving charges against a Prince Edward County resident.
On July 4, 2026, shortly after 5:00 pm, members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a suspected impaired driver in Wellington.
Officers located the suspect vehicle parked in Wellington and subsequently arrested the driver following an investigation.
The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result:
David Tobin, age 62 of Wellington, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton.
In addition to the criminal charges, the accused received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The Prince Edward County OPP continues to focus on impaired driving on local roads through proactive enforcement and the investigation of public complaints. Impaired driving is entirely preventable and remains a significant risk to everyone who uses Ontario’s roadways.
