TWO PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY DRIVERS CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING

(PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, ON) - Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two local drivers with impaired driving following separate investigations in Prince Edward County over the past week.
On June 26, 2026, shortly after 8:00 pm, officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover on County Road 1. Upon arrival, police located a vehicle in the ditch and spoke with the driver. During the investigation, officers observed signs of alcohol consumption, and the driver was required to provide a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The result was a “Fail”.
The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result:
Chanel McKenzie, age 20 of Picton, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Novice driver - blood alcohol concentration above zero
Less than a week later, on July 1, 2026, shortly after 3:00 am, Prince Edward County OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program at County Road 4 and George Wright Boulevard in Picton when a vehicle entered the checkpoint.
The driver provided two breath samples into an ASD, both resulting in a Fail. Following his arrest, the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result:
Christopher Sampson, age 41 of Picton, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton at a later date.
