(OTONABEE-SOUTH MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) - An officer from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired driving after receiving a complaint from a construction worker on Highway 7.

On Wednesday June 24, 2026, just prior to midnight, an officer from the Peterborough County OPP who was patrolling Highway 7 was stopped at a construction zone and advised of a vehicle that failed to stop for the flagman. The officer located the vehicle and observed that it had no rear lights on.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking with the driver, determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The officer arrested the driver for Operation while Impaired. The driver was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing where their results were over four times the legal limit.

Sean OVENDEN (age 31) of Douro-Dummer Township, ON., was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on August 4, 2026.

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
