TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGE

(CAVAN-MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) - An officer from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual with impaired driving after conducting a traffic stop for speeding.

On Monday June 8, 2026, at approximately 10:45pm, an officer from the Peterborough County OPP was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 115, observing northbound traffic. The officer observed a vehicle travelling well above the posted 100km/hr speed limit and activated their lidar confirming their belief. The officer activated their emergency lighting and conducted a traffic stop.

The officer approached the vehicle and after a short conversation with the driver, the officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied and based on the results, was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

Michael KONIECZNY (age 44) of Indian River, ON., was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding
  • Fail to have insurance card

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 21, 2026.

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
