ALPR LEADS TO OPERATION WHILE PROHIBITED CHARGE AMONG WEEKEND RECAP

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) - Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged individuals in unrelated incidents.
Operation While Prohibited
On July 4, 2026, at approximately 9:20 am, an officer was patrolling County Road 25 in the Municipality of Trent Hills when the in-cruiser Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alerted police to an expired licence plate attached to a vehicle.
The motorist was stopped and further investigation revealed the driver was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.
Ashley GALLOWAY (31), of Brampton, was arrested and charged with:

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September 2026. The vehicle was also impounded for 45 days.
Motor Vehicle Collision
On July 3, 2026, at approximately 2:30 pm, OPP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 eastbound in the Township of Hamilton.
No serious injuries were reported; however, debris on the roadway and the positioning of the involved vehicles resulted in significant delays for eastbound traffic.
As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old male from Beaconsfield, Quebec, was charged with:
- Careless driving
- Driving while under suspension
- Fail to surrender insurance card
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
- Improper tires
The individual’s vehicle was also impounded for 45 days.
Marine Occurrence
On July 4, 2026, at approximately 8:15 pm, officers responded to a marine occurrence following a report of a person in the water near Lighthouse Lane and Paxton Drive in the Municipality of Brighton.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also responded to the call, which was reported to be connected to a personal watercraft. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) was engaged to assist with search efforts and deployed both a vessel and an aircraft.
The area was searched until shortly after 10:00 pm; however, no person or watercraft was located. The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
