IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED FOLLOWING PUBLIC COMPLAINT

(Fort Frances, ON) - An impaired driver was taken into custody after a concerned citizen called 911.
On June 20,2026 at approximately 8:30 pm, the Rainy River District Detachment Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Fort Frances received a 911 call from a concerned citizen reporting an impaired driver on Hwy 11/71 leaving Emo.
Officers located the vehicle entering Fort Frances and conducted a vehicle stop. Alcohol was detected and a roadside screening test was demanded. The driver failed the test and was transported to the Fort Frances detachment where additional breath testing was completed.
Matthew Staurt, 29-years-old from Fort Frances is charged with one count each of impaired operation alcohol or drug, operation 80 mg of alcohol and over, drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available, and having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor.
The accused driver licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused was released by police and has a first appearance in Fort Frances court on July 30, 2026.
