JOINT CHARGES LAID FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF IDENTITY DOCUMENT

(Atikokan, ON) - Two people were charged criminally after police discovered that they possessed an identity document belonging to another person.
On June 23, 2026, members of the Atikokan Detachment Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the Rainy River District Detachment Offender Management and Apprehension Program (OMAP) assisted the OPP in Thunder Bay with a bail violation and warrant incident. During the investigation officers observed that one of the involved people was holding an identity document that did not belong to them. This discovery resulted in the arrest and charges for two individuals.
Mawuwoe DUMORDZIE 29-years-old from Accra Ghana and Eben ANKOMAH 58-years-old from Atikokan have been jointly charged with one count each of possession of an identity document. Eben ANKOMAH is additionally charged with one count of failing to comply with judicial release. A warrant for his arrest out of Thunder Bay was also executed.
The first accused was released by police and is to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on August 27, 2026, to answer to the charge. The latter accused was held in custody by police and has a bail hearing on June 24, 2026.
