(RENFREW, ON) - The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising local businesses to be aware of fraudulent letters that have recently been received in the area.
The letters contain concerning content and images and appear to have been sent by the Ontario Provincial Police. However, the Renfrew OPP can confirm that these were not issued by the OPP.
Businesses that receive one of these letters are asked not to open the letter. Instead, they should retain the letter and contact the Renfrew OPP to report the incident. Any information provided by recipients may assist investigators in identifying those responsible.
The OPP takes incidents involving fraudulent correspondence seriously. Impersonating a police service can cause unnecessary fear and confusion within the community.
The Renfrew OPP reminds businesses and residents to be cautious of any unsolicited correspondence that appears suspicious. If you are uncertain about the legitimacy of a letter claiming to be from the OPP, contact your local OPP detachment directly using publicly listed contact information to verify its authenticity.
