LEEDS OPP LAYS OVER 80 FIREARMS RELATED CHARGES

(LEEDS COUNTY, ON) - The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged two individuals with several firearms related offences.
On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at approximately 9:30 pm, members of the Leeds OPP responded to a reported incident and commenced an investigation. The Leeds County Crime Unit subsequently assumed responsibility for the investigation and assistance was provided by the Emergency Response Team, the Tactics and Rescue Unit, the Canine Unit, the Community Street Crime Unit and the Forensic Identification Services in the execution of a search warrant.
Officers seized the following items from a residence:
- More than thirty firearms, including restricted and prohibited firearms
- More than fifty firearms-related items, including ammunition and magazines
- One crossbow
As a result of the investigation, two individuals were arrested.
The first accused, a 72 year-old male of Leeds County, remains in custody and was charged with the following offences:
- Sexual assault
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm - twenty-six counts
- Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order - twenty-five counts
The second accused, a 69-year-old male of Leeds County, was released from custody and was charged with the following offences:
- Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition - sixteen counts
- Possession of firearm at unauthorized place - 8 counts
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm - 6 counts
The identities of the accused cannot be disclosed in order to protect the privacy of the victim.
