SHELTER-IN-PLACE IN EFFECT IN M’CHIGEENG FIRST NATION
(M’CHIGEENG, ON) - The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and United Chiefs & Councils of Manitoulin (UCCM) Anishnaabe Police Service are advising members of the public in M’Chigeeng First Nation near the area of Hall Street, Mnaawnkwad Drive, and Corbiere Street to shelter-in-place. Police are actively responding to an incident involving a potentially armed individual in the area.
As a precaution, members of the public in this area are asked to take the following safety precautions:
- If you are outside, seek shelter immediately in a secure location
- If you are inside, lock all doors and windows, and close curtains or blinds to avoid drawing attention
- Motorists are asked to avoid the area and should not pick up hitchhikers. If you are driving in or through this area, please proceed directly to your destination and do not make any additional stops
- Follow any instructions provided by officers at the scene
Individuals not currently in the affected area are requested to avoid travelling there until further notice. An increased police presence can be expected while officers continue their response and investigation.
