YOUNG DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(SHUNIAH, ON) - A 19-year-old driver is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop in the Municipality of Shuniah.
On Thursday, July 16, 2026, at approximately 6:27 pm, an officer with the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11/17 at Highway 527 in Shuniah.
During the traffic stop, the officer observed open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle and noted signs of impairment displayed by the driver.
As a result of the investigation, Carter CRESSMAN-SPEAK, 19, of Thunder Bay, was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor
- Young driver - blood alcohol concentration above zero
- Speeding 1-49 km/h over the posted speed limit
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
