MOTORIST CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(QUINTE WEST, ON) - The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver with impaired driving following a traffic stop.
On Friday, June 19, 2026, at approximately 1:15 am, Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Hamilton Road, leading to an investigation where an ASD was used, resulting in the arrest of the driver for being impaired. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, charges were laid under the Criminal Code (CC), the Liquor Licence and Control Act (LLCA), the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
Nicholas McCRORY, 33 years old, from Quinte West, was charged with the following offences:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
- Class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver
- Class G1 licence holder - drive at unlawful hour
- Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
- Speeding 1-49 Km/h over posted speed limit
- Fail to have insurance card
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 30, 2026. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and their licence suspended for 90 days.
