In October 2025, detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Human Trafficking Unit (HTU) began an investigation into the trafficking of a woman within the Niagara Region and elsewhere in Canada.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect as 35-year-old, Jermayne HENWOOD , of Hamilton. On Thursday, June 25, 2026, HTU detectives arrested HENWOOD in the city of Hamilton.

HENWOOD has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences.

  • Trafficking in Persons
  • Material Benefit from Trafficking in Persons
  • Material Benefit from Sexual Services
  • Advertising Another Person’s Sexual Services
  • Procuring
  • Withholding Documents
  • Administer Noxious Substance
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

HENWOOD remains in custody pending a bail hearing which is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026.

Human Trafficking means every person who recruits, transports, transfers, receives, holds, conceals, or harbours a person, or exercises control, direction or influence over the movements of a person, for the purpose of exploiting them or facilitating their exploitation, for a sexual purpose or forced labour purpose. Victims can be men, women, or children; can be Canadian citizens; and can be moved across local, provincial, or national borders. They can be coerced through violence or the threat of violence against family and friends.
