A PROHIBITED DRIVER WAS CHARGED ON HIGHWAY 535

(FRENCH RIVER, ON) - One person was arrested and charged after police conducted a traffic stop with a prohibited driver.
On Thursday June 11, 2026, at approximately 4:25 pm, members from the Nipissing West (Noelville) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol and conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 535, French River.
The driver was found to be both a suspended and prohibited driver.
As a result of the investigation, Cary BURNSIDE, 39 years old, from St. Charles, was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code -two counts
- Driving while under suspension
- Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle
- Operate unsafe vehicle
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 2, 2026, in Sudbury. The vehicle was impounded for 45-days, at the cost of the owner.
