(SUDBURY, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged the driver of the motor vehicle from the single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17.

On Monday, February 2, 2026, at approximately 1:00 am, members of the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 bypass, Sudbury.

Two occupants were transported to the local hospital, the driver who received non-life-threatening injuries and a 74-year-old female passenger from Sault Ste. Marie, who sustained life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

As a result of the investigation, Lawrence MEYERS, 67 years old, from Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with, dangerous operation causing death.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 16, 2026, in Sudbury.
