TRAFFIC STOP OF ATV RESULTS IN CHARGES

(NORTH HURON, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Wingham resident with several offences following a traffic stop in the Township of North Huron on June 03, 2026.
Just before 11:00 pm on Wednesday, June 03, 2026, Huron County OPP officers observed an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) being driven on Josephine Street in the Town of Wingham. Officers followed the ATV to an address on Edward Street, where police spoke to the driver and discovered that they had consumed alcohol prior to driving.
The driver registered a “WARN” on the Approved Screening Device. Further investigation revealed that the driver was suspended from driving and failed to have insurance or a licence plate on the ATV.
A 30-year-old Wingham resident has been charged with three Provincial Offences found in the Off-Road Vehicles Act (ORVA) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The involved ATV was towed and impounded for 7 days.
The accused was processed and has a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
ATV Safety Week is ongoing and runs between June 01 - 07, 2026 across Ontario. Police will be additionally patrolling with OPP ATV’s and checking for compliance and sobriety.
