An Aurora man has been arrested after someone broke into a Guelph ATM earlier this year.

On April 24, police were called to a business on Speedvale Avenue East after the owner arrived to find the front door smashed and a Bitcoin ATM damaged.

Investigation revealed a man had attended the business the previous day and deposited cash into the machine to purchase cryptocurrency. He returned overnight and broke into the store before forcing open the ATM and removing cash.

The Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit took over the investigation, working with another police service to identify a suspect. On Tuesday a 51-year-old Aurora man was arrested for break and enter and possessing break-in instruments. He will appear in court September 8.
