Driver had three times legal limit at 11:30 a.m.

Two men were arrested for impaired driving Thursday, including one who had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system before noon.

Approximately 11:30 am police responded for reports of a possible impaired driver near Stone Road West and Edinburgh Road South. A grey SUV was seen swerving into oncoming lanes and almost striking the curb a number of times.

Officers located the SUV and pulled it over. The driver had an odour of alcohol on his breath and was showing signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests revealed he had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle – which is registered to his father – was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court August 28.

At 11:40 pm Thursday, an officer patrolling near Paisley Road and Imperial Road South observed a vehicle twice crossing into oncoming lanes and pulled it over. The driver was showing signs of impairment and failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested and taken to the police station, where tests revealed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court August 25.
