Impaired charge after erratic driving

A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and other offences after police observed a vehicle being driven erratically downtown Saturday morning.
Just before 2 am an officer was patrolling downtown when he observed a vehicle mounting a curb at Wellington Street East and Wyndham Street South. The officer followed the car into the downtown and saw it driving through a stop sign. The driver then stopped next to a large group of pedestrians before revving the engine and causing the tires to squeal.
The car was pulled over on Norfolk Street and the driver noted to be showing signs of impairment. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 21-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, disobeying a stop sign, making an improper turn and other driving offences. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court August 28.
