A Guelph man faces impaired and drug charges after police found him passed out in a vehicle early Tuesday.

Just after 1 am officers were dealing with an unrelated call at a south-end townhouse complex when they saw the man unconscious in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. Officers noticed a white powdered substance near the man’s lip and could see two baggies of suspected cocaine inside the car.

He was removed from the vehicle and found to be showing signs of impairment. A further search of the vehicle revealed an empty alcohol bottle behind the driver’s seat.

The man was placed under arrest and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 59-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation and possessing a controlled substance. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court September 1.
