Impaired charge after fleeing police with kids

A Guelph man faces impaired driving and other charges after fleeing from police with his children in the vehicle.
The evening of July 1 officers interacted with the man for approximately one hour while investigating an unrelated matter. During this time officers observed the man to be impaired with a strong odour of alcohol on his breath.
A short time later the same officers were in the area following up another matter when they observed the man driving a car. They knew him to be a prohibited driver. Officers activated their emergency lights and attempted to pull the vehicle over but the man did not stop. Officers observed two small children inside the car and did not pursue it.
On Thursday morning officers attended an address outside the city where they observed tire tracks going across the lawn and located the vehicle from the previous night.
A 30-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, flight from police and driving while prohibited. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his car was impounded for 45 days. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
