A Kitchener man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after he was involved in a hit and run collision in Guelph Thursday afternoon.
Just before 4 pm a woman was driving her SUV southbound on Gordon Street just south of Wellington Street when she heard an engine revving behind her and then her vehicle was struck from behind. The driver of the second vehicle did not stop and was seen fleeing the area.
Approximately two hours later the involved driver attended the Collision Reporting Centre on Clair Road West. Officers spoke to the man and detected an odour of alcohol. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 19-year-old Kitchener man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court July 21.
