A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after a Guelph Police Service officer observed a vehicle being driven erratically Wednesday evening.

The officer was patrolling on Victoria Road South approximately 9:40 pm when she saw a pickup being driven without lights. The vehicle made several lane changes without signaling and when the officer pulled it over the driver mounted the curb before driving back onto the road.

The driver had an odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 29-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, driving without proof of insurance and driving with improper lighting. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court August 11.
