A Fergus man is charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop in Guelph early Wednesday.

Just after midnight, police received a driving complaint and located the involved vehicle on Edinburgh Road South. While speaking to the driver officers noted a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and observed signs of impairment.

After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests showed he had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. Investigation revealed the man is also a prohibited driver.

A 44-year-old Fergus man is charged with impaired driving and driving while prohibited. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 45 days. He will appear in court August 4.
