Man arrested after assault with cane

A Guelph man has been arrested after a woman reported being repeatedly struck with a cane earlier this month.
The afternoon of June 5, the victim attended the police station to report the incident. She said she was confronted outside an address on Woolwich Street just after midnight by a man who accused her of stealing his belongings. The two are known to each other.
During the altercation the woman reported she was struck several times in the head and back with a cane. Bystanders came to her assistance and the man fled the area.
On Thursday a 65-year-old Guelph man was arrested for assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He will appear in court September 15.
