Teens arrested after downtown disturbance

Two Guelph teens face several charges following a disturbance downtown Friday night.
Just before 9 pm police were called to the area of Gordon Street and Wellington Street East. Four females reported they were involved in a verbal altercation with another group, during which a member of the second group brandished a collapsible baton and uttered threats towards them.
Investigation revealed the two groups had been involved in an altercation a short time earlier at the transit terminal on Carden Street. During the earlier incident one of the females was struck in the face. Both suspects are on release orders with conditions not to contact each other. Both provided fake names to officers on scene.
A Guelph boy and girl, both 17, are charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, obstructing police and two counts of breaching an undertaking. Both were held for bail hearings and have been released to appear in court June 24.
