Two Guelph men face impaired driving charges following separate incidents Friday.
Just before 3:30 pm police were called for a two-vehicle collision at Woodlawn Road West and Dawson Road where a stopped vehicle had been rear-ended.
While speaking to the drivers, officers noted one had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 52-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving.
A few hours later, just before 8:30 pm, police received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically on Wellington Street East. Officers located and stopped the vehicle on York Road and noted the driver appeared drowsy and confused. The man said he didn’t have his driver’s licence with him and appeared surprised when officers pointed to his wallet in the centre console.
He was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs. While searching the vehicle officers located three identity documents in other people’s names.
A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, driving while prohibited and three counts of possessing an identity document.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. Both were released with upcoming court dates.
