Dozens of unsafe vehicles were taken off the road during a two-day inspection blitz this week in Cambridge.
Two members of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit participated in the joint initiative, which was hosted by Waterloo Regional Police and included participants from several police services and provincial ministries.
A total of 264 commercial motor vehicles were inspected, with 59 taken out of service for various safety defects. Approximately 110 charges were laid and four sets of licence plates were seized.
Road safety was identified by the community as a key priority in the drafting of the Guelph Police Service’s latest Strategic Plan. Initiatives such as the safety blitz and the resulting number of violations demonstrate the ongoing need for proactive enforcement to protect the community from unsafe vehicles.
