KNOW THE E-BIKE RULES AND REGULATIONS BEFORE YOU RIDE

If you are operating a e-bike it is important to remember that to legally operate an e-bike (power-assisted bicycle), the bike must:
- Have operable pedals
- Have an electric motor rated at 500 watts or less
- Have a maximum assisted speed of 32 km/h
- Weigh no more than 120 kg (including battery)
- Have two independent braking systems
- Battery and electric motor securely fastened to the bicycle frame to prevent them from moving while the e-bike is operating
- All electrical terminals properly insulated
- Meet Ontario equipment requirements
As a rider, you must:
- Be at least 16 years old
- Wear an approved bicycle or motorcycle helmet
- Follow the same traffic laws that apply to cyclists
- Not ride on controlled-access highways such as Highway 402
You do not need:
- A driver’s licence
- Vehicle registration
- Licence plates
- Insurance
E-bikes are prohibited on the Point Edward waterfront pathway. This affects the pathway running along the waterfront area between the casino and the eastern portion of the park system. If you are riding in that area, watch for posted sings and local by law restrictions.
