Ooni Karu 12 Multi-fuel Outdoor Portable Pizza Oven

(PHELPS TOWNSHIP) - A 60‑year‑old individual from Phelps Township has been arrested and charged following an intimate partner violence incident that resulted in a structure fire.

On Friday, March 20, 2026, at approximately 5:20 pm, the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and District of Nipissing Paramedic Services responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic assault in progress at a residence on North River Road in Phelps Township.

A second call from the victim reported that the residence was on fire. The Phelps Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched, and the victim was confirmed to be safely out of the residence.

When officers arrived, they observed the home fully engulfed in flames. The accused later exited an outbuilding on the property and surrendered to police.

As a result of the investigation, a 60-year-old individual from Phelps Township, was arrested and charged with:

  • Arson - Disregard for human life
  • Arson - damage to property
  • Assault - spousal - two counts
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on March 23, 2026.

The North East Region Forensic Identification Services and the North Bay OPP Crime Unit are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
