Additional Charges Laid
(EAST FERRIS, ON) - Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit have laid additional charges in connection with an assault investigation in East Ferris.
On Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 12:10 am, members of the North Bay OPP and the District of Nipissing Paramedic Services responded to a report of an assault in East Ferris. One individual was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
A second individual fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival and was later involved in a collision with a stationary vehicle. The individual was taken into custody.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, a 59-year-old from East Ferris now faces a total of 12 Criminal Code charges:
- Attempt to commit murder, section 239(1)(b)
- Aggravated assault, section 268
- Assault with a weapon, section 267(a)
- Assault, section 266
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88
- Break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence, section 348(1)(a)
- Operation while impaired - alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a)
- Refusal to comply with demand, section 320.15(1)
- Dangerous operation, section 320.13(1)
- Failure to comply with undertaking, section 145(4)(a) - two counts
- Mischief over $5,000, section 430(3)
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay at a later date.
As the matter involves intimate partner violence and to protect the identity of the victim, the name of the accused will not be released.
