DRIVER CHARGED FOLLOWING TRAFFIC COMPLAINT

(POWASSAN, ON) - A driver is facing multiple charges, including impaired driving, following a traffic complaint west of Powassan.
On Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 10:45 pm, members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 534 in the Township of Restoule.
Officers located the vehicle travelling on Highway 534 and conducted a traffic stop in Powassan. During the investigation, police observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest also resulted in the seizure of an open container of alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, Jason SZAKALL, 41 years of age, of Dunnville, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
- Driving while under suspension
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 21, 2026. The driver was also issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
