(POWASSAN, ON) - An Astorville resident is facing multiple charges, including impaired driving, after leaving the scene of a collision involving a parked vehicle in Powassan.

On Saturday July 11, 2026, at approximately 8:00 pm, members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision in a commercial parking lot on Golf Course Line in Powassan. The driver had struck an unoccupied parked vehicle and left the scene without reporting the collision.

Officers located the driver and vehicle a short time later and observed damage to the vehicle consistent with the reported collision. While speaking with the driver, police observed signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Wesley SCHERGER, 42 years old, of Astorville, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to report accident
  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on August 18, 2026. In addition, the driver received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
