DRIVER CHARGED FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP IN CALLANDER

(CALLANDER, ON) - A Hamilton resident is facing impaired driving charges after a traffic stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in the Municipality of Callander.
On Friday, June 26, 2026, at approximately 10:00 pm, members of the North Bay Detachment of the OPP were conducting patrols in the Municipality of Callander when an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alert indicated that a vehicle’s permit validation had expired. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 94.
While speaking with the driver, officers observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment. As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Antonio AGRESTA, 54 years of age of Hamilton, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
- Fail to surrender insurance card
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
- Change lane not in safety
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 21, 2026. The driver was also issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
