DRIVER CHARGED FOLLOWING STOP IN MATTAWA

(MATTAWA, ON) - One individual is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic stop involving a scooter in Mattawa.
On Sunday, June 14, 2026, at approximately 3:45 pm a member of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed an individual operating a scooter in the oncoming lane on John Street while holding an open alcoholic beverage.
A traffic stop was initiated. During the investigation, the officer observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment, and the driver was arrested.
As a result of the investigation, Joanne CLOUTHIER, 55 years of age, of Papineau-Cameron, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 21, 2026. The driver was also issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
