TRAFFIC STOP FOR EXPIRED PLATES RESULTED IN IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged one person with impaired driving after conducting a traffic stop.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 4:35 pm, members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP, were alerted by the Auto License Plate Reader (ALPR) of a vehicle with expired licence plates and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 64, West Nipissing.
The driver, Aaron HOVINGA, 52 years old, from Whitney was arrested for impaired driving and was charged with:
- Operation while impaired - drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 2, 2026, in North Bay.
The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
