CHARGES LAID IN AFTER TRAFFIC STOP

(TAY VALLEY TWP, ON) - The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two people after a traffic stop linked to a string of copper wire thefts in Lanark County and the surrounding area.
Lanark County OPP officers observed a vehicle and 2 males just after 2:30 am on June 19, 2026, in an area that has had cable wires cut several times. The vehicle was stopped on Harper Road in Tay Valley Township a short time later.
Officers recovered a large amount of copper wire, break and enter tools and a small amount of suspected Methamphetamine and Cannabis.
As a result of the investigation, Dusty BELL, age 38 of Carleton Place, has been charged with:
- Possession of stolen property over $5000
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Possession of schedule I substance- Methamphetamine
- Driving while under suspension
- Use plates not authorized for vehicle
- Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
Shawn ANTOINE, age 40 of Lanark Highlands Township, has been charged with:
- Possession of schedule I substance- Methamphetamine
- Possession of stolen property over $5000
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Driving while under suspension - two counts
- Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on August 8, 2026.
