CARELESS DRIVER CHARGED IN FAIL TO REMAIN INVESTIGATION
Driver Facing Three Charges - No Injuries Reported
(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) - Careless driver facing three charges after striking pedestrian and then failing to remain at the scene.
On June 8, 2026, at approximately 2:15 pm, the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call involving a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian and then continuing to drive away from the scene.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect motor vehicle had failed to stop for a stop sign, striking a crossing pedestrian in the crosswalk at Millburn Boulevard and St David Street South, within Fergus, and then proceeded on without checking on the pedestrian. It was also noted that the pedestrian had to strike the hood multiple times to get the vehicle to stop.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported to the pedestrian.
As a result of the investigation, a 74-year-old of Fergus is charged under the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:
- Careless Driving
- Fail to remain at the scene on a collision
- Failing to surrender insurance card upon demand
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court - Guelph at a later date.
