CHILD OBSERVED UNRESTRAINED IN MOVING VEHICLE

Three Charges Laid

(GUELPH, ON) - Three charges laid as a result of child being observed to be unrestrained in moving vehicle.

On May 26, 2026, at approximately 5:45 pm, the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit were conducting a proactive traffic enforcement initiative, and initiated a traffic stop on Wellington Street West, within the City of Guelph.

It was noted that the officer observed a small child passenger standing in the rear seating area and learning out the driver-side rear window. Concerned for the child’s safety, a traffic stop was promptly conducted on the subject motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old from Guelph is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Drive while under passenger not properly secured
  • Fail to have insurance card
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
