(MAPELTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - A driver has been charged following a traffic stop in Mapleton.

On July 7, 2026, at approximately 10:00 am, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit was conducting proactive traffic enforcement, when they initiated a traffic stop on Wellington Road 7 in Mapleton Township of a vehicle that was operating with an insecure load.

Police observed an open container of liquor within the vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine.

As a result of the investigation, Adam RUTTAN, a 50-year-old from Mapleton Township, is charged under the Controlled drugs and Substances Act, the Highway Traffic Act, the Liquor Licence Control Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Owner operate motor vehicle without insurance
  • Operate unsafe vehicle
  • Insecure load
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
  • Driver - fail to properly wear seatbelt
  • Use defaced plate

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario County of Justice in Guelph on September 25, 2026.
